Home, he needed to get home! Something was holding him back—something sharp tugging at his arm, a dull pain in his chest, but he knew it was important to get home at any cost.

It wasn't the bed's railing that stopped Neal, it was his legs that gave out under him as he toppled over, bringing down the IV pole with him.

The next morning, he woke to unfamiliar sensations, and it took him a few seconds to realize why. Padded restraints were wrapped around his wrists, and along with the pain in his chest, there was a throbbing somewhere in the vicinity of his left temple. He wanted to feel for it, but there was the matter of his shackles.

Luckily, they had been thoughtful enough to move the pad with the emergency button to near his right hand, so he could push it. The middle-aged nurse that came to see him minutes later (she wasn't his favorite) told him in no uncertain terms that they'd had no choice but to restrain him after last night's stunt.

"Can you please take them off?" he practically begged.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Caffrey, they're for your own protection."

"Protection?" he raised his voice, and immediately regretted it as it made sharp pain shoot through this right chest. "Look, I'm awake now. I realize I can't leave here. I'm not going to try this again."

The nurse just shrugged. "It's policy."

"Please," he pled.

She shook her head and left the room.

Neal tugged at the restraints, but he neither had the strength nor the means to do anything about them. His body sagging, he closed his eyes, exhausted and both less than willing and helpless to do anything other than succumb to his fate. How had he earned any of this?

:( Poor Neal. That's got to really really suck.

I love it when "my" characters try to escape from the hospital/infirmary. (I'm so blaming John Sheppard and SGA fanfic for that!)

Thank you!

Poor Neal! I'm not really claustrophobic, but that kind of helplessness would probably make me panic. And to be restrained like that in unfamiliar surroundings, while wounded? *pats Neal*
